Meet the teacherPosted by Shanna Irish, 5/13/08 at 3:34:07 PM.Hello- I am very excited to be starting my second year here at Mountain Shadows Elementary School! I am a graduate of Arizona State University, where I earned my Bachelors degree in Special Education with a specialty in Learning Disabilities. I am a current student of Northern Arizona University where I am studying for my Masters in Elemenatary Education with a specialty in Reading. I am a native to Arizona and grew up just aroung the corner from Mountain Shadows. When I am not teaching I enjoy cooking, traveling, spending time with my husband and daughter, bible study, dancing, or spending time with my friends.
My Philosophy on school: Philosophy: Teacher: Children are capable to learn in an atmosphere that is safe and welcoming. As a teacher it is my responsibility to keep the classroom an enviroment that allows exploration of the mind to be done freely. I am to engage, lead, and explore with my students as they learn. As a teacher I hope to expose children to as many ideas as possible to help them discover who they are and what their purpose in life is. Students: Children have control over their attitudes, effort, and behavior in school. They must make positive, rational decisions while they are at school. No child has the right to interfere with the learning or safety of another student. School: Schools are the first place many children are exposed to different cultures and new ideas. It is a place that is safe and open to learn not only academic lessons but also social lessons. All children have a purpose in life and school will help develop the path a child could follow. Parents: Parents know their children better than anyone. They are needed to help the school educate the children effectively. Learning first takes place at home, with parents being their childs first teachers. Parents support is a must for children to value their educational sucess. It is my hope that parents will take an active role in their childs academics and school activities.
